In addition to variety, this assignment will also provide more insight into moderation (are you getting too much or too little from a food group?). This portion of the diet analysis project will allow you to explore one of your documented days on your food diary and assess for variety. However, without looking at how well each food group is represented, we are unable to assess the variety in our diets. In the Part 2 Diet Analysis (using Cronometer),we were able to assess our diets in terms of adequacy, balance, calorie control, and moderation. As you may recall from chapter 2, the 5 key factors of a healthy diet include adequacy, balance, calorie control, moderation, and variety. Some users report that the sedative effects of Gorilla Glue can take a little while to kick in. It sometimes contains hints of pine, but most often, you’ll find the sour smell reminiscent of its parent varieties. Gorilla Glue does not contain CBD, and it’s got a characteristic aroma that is pungent and earthy. Together, these terpenes encourage pain reduction, decreased stress, better sleep and improved anxiety. It’s very caryophyllene forward for inflammation reduction, but myrcene contributes those feelings of relaxation while limonene is responsible for the more euphoric sensations. Those who are looking into Gorilla Glue for its medical properties benefit from the terpenes it contains. Users report that GG4 engenders positive feelings, euphoria and restfulness. Its name arises from the sensation that you’ll feel “glued” to the couch in a state of heavy relaxation. What You Can Expectĭespite its highly sativa-dominant origins, Gorilla Glue often brings about a highly sedative effect. This terpene has been associated with a reduction in inflammation, and it works alongside both myrcene and limonene for a multi-faceted effect. The main terpene in Gorilla Glue is caryophyllene, which gives GG4 its spicy, almost pepper-like quality. The buds are thick and almost waxy, which are a result of the composition of its multiple parent plants.Ĭhem Sis, its sativa parent, is coupled with another sativa strain in Chocolate Diesel and then mixed with the hybrid Sour Dubble to create the unique effects of GG4. The old pertussis vaccine had far more risks than the hepatitis B vaccine. In fact, a milliliter of blood (about one-fifth of a teaspoon) from someone who is infected can contain as many as 1 billion infectious viruses.īecause the benefits of the hepatitis B vaccine clearly and definitively outweigh its risks, the hepatitis B vaccine is safe. This means that someone can be infected through relatively casual contact with someone who is infected, such as sharing washcloths or toothbrushes. Worse yet, many people don't realize that you can catch hepatitis B virus after coming into contact with very small quantities of blood - small enough that they are not visible to the naked eye. So it can be hard to tell from whom you could catch hepatitis B virus. As a result, many people who are infected with hepatitis B virus don't know that they have it. Some children caught it from another family member, and some children caught it from someone outside the home who came into contact with the baby.Īlthough about 1 to 2 million people in the United States are infected with hepatitis B virus, many of these are “silent infections,” meaning without obvious symptoms. They ask: "How is a baby going to catch hepatitis B?" But, before the hepatitis B virus vaccine, every year in the United States about 18,000 children less than 10 years of age caught hepatitis B virus from someone other than their mother. Some parents wonder whether it is necessary to give the hepatitis B virus vaccine to newborns. For this reason, the hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for newborns. People are much more likely to develop these severe, and often fatal, consequences of hepatitis B virus infection if they get infected when they are very young children. Up to 1 in 4 chronically infected people will suffer severe liver damage (called cirrhosis) or liver cancer caused by hepatitis B virus. Between 1 and 2 million of these people live in the United States. And, millions of people throughout the world live with chronic hepatitis B infection. On the other hand, every year about 1,700 people die in the United States soon after being infected with hepatitis B virus. Although no one has ever died because of the hepatitis B vaccine, the symptoms of anaphylaxis caused by the vaccine can be quite frightening. The symptoms of anaphylaxis are hives, difficulty breathing and a drop in blood pressure. About 1 of every 1 million doses of hepatitis B vaccine is complicated by a severe allergic reaction, called anaphylaxis. The hepatitis B vaccine has few side effects. Offit explain the risks and benefits of vaccines by watching this short video, part of the Talking About Vaccines with Dr. ![]() ![]() To better understand the definition of the word safe when applied to vaccines, let's examine a few different vaccines and the diseases they prevent. Or, said another way, a vaccine's benefits must clearly and definitively outweigh its risks. The second definition of the word safe is "having been preserved from a real danger." Using this definition, the danger (the disease) must be significantly greater than the means of protecting against the danger (the vaccine). We just figure that the benefits of the activity outweigh the risks. However, few of us consider taking a bath, eating solid food or walking outside on a rainy day as unsafe activities. For example, every year in the United States, about 350 people are killed in bath- or shower-related accidents, about 5000 people are killed when food lodges in their windpipe, and about 50 people are struck and killed by lightning. Although none of these severe symptoms resulted in permanent damage, they could be quite frightening to parents.īut, in truth, few things meet the definition of "harmless." Even everyday activities contain hidden dangers. For example, the original pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine could cause persistent, inconsolable crying, high fever or seizures associated with fever. And some vaccines cause more severe side effects. Almost all vaccines can cause pain, redness or tenderness at the site of injection. Using this definition, no vaccine is 100 percent safe. The first definition of the word safe is "harmless." This definition would imply that any negative consequence of a vaccine would make the vaccine unsafe. ![]() And eventually onto making actual trail meals to freeze-dry. More packed in the mylar bags that are included with the freeze dryer. The dryer unit does come with a starter amount of desiccant packets as well. In theory this gives full life storage for the items. We did put a desiccant packet into each jar before hand. With the mason jars, we use a Food Saver accessory hose and the toppers that pull the air out of the jar. I recommend wearing food grade disposable gloves.įreeze-dried carrots, sealed for storage. That is definitely where having us work together works well. Sliced bell peppers and slivered carrots.Ģ4 or so hours later, we pulled it and got it quickly into mason jars and mylar bags. Their tenders don’t often give them the good parts so even better. No wasting here! It was perfectly freeze-dried. What a shame to throw away! It smelled fine, so the chickens got to enjoy it. The recommend bread, because it’s normally cheap, but hey, the broccoli was cheaper! We popped in 3 pounds of broccoli florets as I had scored it for $1.99. Once the unit is setup, Harvest Right recommends doing a first run, of something you can run through cheaply, to pick up any “odors” from manufacturing. You might need an electrician to add more boom. So before you commit to a Large unit, check out your power is right for it in your home, garage or shop. But if you are not inclined that way, the Medium and Small units do not need this. For him, this was easy enough, just a visit to Home Depot to get the items and a few minutes work. This meant Kirk had to install a new one in the place we have the unit set up. To do the setup, since we bought the largest unit, it required a 110 volt (NEMA 5-20) outlet. The small unit won’t be as big, so there is that. So keep that in mind should you want the large unit. Kirk met them on the road with our tractor, and used the pallet forks we have – as it was delivered on a wood pallet. It was delivered via FedEx Freight, and we live on a rural road (so they wouldn’t back up to our house down our long driveway – many times freight companies will, but FedEx will never do that). Again, the smaller models are far easier to move! So keep that in mind. And you would need a couple adults to do this (2 at least, 3 is better). If you lived in town, they would put the pallet on your driveway, and you’d need to unpack it to carry it in. The large freeze dryer ships in one package with a total weight of 253 lbs – so yes, that is why we used the tractor to unload it, and carry it up our driveway. So for us, not a huge enough issue to spend the extra money. We did not buy the upgraded oil-free unit as it cost around an additional $1,500. It weighs in at 138 pounds, and the detachable vacuum pump that sits outside the freeze dryer. I am sure someone has that big of a kitchen, but mine is not. And not in the kitchen, unless your kitchen is massive. Harvest Right would tell you this is “perfect for the countertop, I’d say no, it isn’t. The freeze dryer dimensions are 20.25″ W x 23.75″ D x 30.75″ H. But Kirk was right: We needed the biggest due to growing food. I didn’t quite realize how big it was, till it showed up. When we bought ours, we went for the largest home unit….and be forewarned: This is not a small unit. This time of year I am often canning food in mason jars a couple times a week, if not daily. Suddenly we needed to get it ready to use. But if all you want to do is get out a few times a year, then buying the ingredients might just be a better investment (and no shame in that!).īeing busy, we only got it set up recently, which was timed with the harvest on our homestead. Do you enjoy/want to put up items for prepping on a large scale? Do you have a very limited diet due to allergies or you follow a strict diet such as keto? Then it can be worth it. ![]() If you have the money, the time and the products to freeze-dry, then it can be worth it. I am often asked if it is worth getting one. They range from $2,600 to $3,600 depending on the sales offered. The home freeze-dryer units are not affordable – at all. It’s not like buying a dehydrator for your counter, where you might spend $65 to $500 dollars. ![]() And I DO buy a lot of freeze-dried ingredients for recipe development. I’d think to myself “ for the initial cost we could buy a lot of already freeze-dried food“. When at home freeze-dryer units started showing up a few years back I really questioned if it was worth buying one. After a lot of talking it over, and justifying it, we picked up a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer awhile back. |
